Meet Mayeni
Mayeni is a filmmaker pursuing a Global BFA in Film Art from Emerson College and Paris College of Art. As a Sierra Leonean American with vigor for global awareness, Mayeni aims to create nuanced and diversified cultural representation while exploring topics like cultural intersectionality, identity, interpersonal relationships or a lack thereof, seeing vs being seen, black femininity, and radical emotional honesty.
She redefines strength by providing a space for the bemusing: the sensitive and the passionate, the too-loud and the too-much. Whether utilizing visual symbolism or direct confrontation, Mayeni delves into the psyche through moving portraits and uses the personal as a model for the larger theme. A playful, imaginative, and inquisitive spirit is the foundation of everything she does.
By examining the relationship between live performance and the visual arts, Mayeni seeks to provoke the cathartic energy of the moment, authenticity, and community. She currently resides in Paris, France.
